My son lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and his place is within walking distance of Anna\u2019s On the Lake<\/strong>. So on a Sunday morning visit, the plan was easy. What better place to have coffee and a breakfast sandwich on the weekend than here?<\/p>\n

Coffee with a View<\/h2>\n

Anna\u2019s is a specialty coffee shop and kitchen at 5159 6th Ave, with a patio that looks out over the waterway leading to Lake Michigan. We grabbed a table outside on a bright, sunny morning: blue sky, sun sparkling off the water, and a hot coffee in hand. It\u2019s hard to beat.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t think I was that old, but apparently I\u2019m old enough to get to a place like Anna\u2019s earlier than most. When Margaret and I arrived, a group of older folks was already settled in with their coffee, talking about local goings-on. I like to listen in on what other people are saying. Yeah, I\u2019m a creep. But by the time we left, around 9 or 9:30, the line was clear out the door. It was crazy. I don\u2019t think it was tourists, either. My guess is it was the younger crowd from the condos and high-rises in downtown Kenosha, rolling out of bed a little later than us old folks.<\/p>\n

Cappuccino and Cocoa<\/h2>\n

My cappuccino was delicious. I always order mine with coconut milk and a little cinnamon, kind of a callback to the Cuban and Latin-style coffee I love. The coconut milk gives it a certain natural sweetness. Margaret doesn\u2019t drink coffee at all, so she always goes for a hot cocoa.<\/p>\n

Breakfast Sandwiches<\/h2>\n

We each went with a breakfast sandwich and traded bites across the table. Margaret got the bagel sandwich, with egg and melty cheese and a crispy, lacy layer of griddled cheese spilling out the sides. That crunchy cheese edge is the best part. I went with a classic sausage, egg, and cheese on an English muffin, with fluffy scrambled eggs piled high.<\/p>\n

I must be on a whole bagel roll<\/a> lately, because I think Margaret\u2019s bagel sandwich was the more filling of the two. Either way, I didn\u2019t need to eat again for a good chunk of the day, even after the mile walk back to our son\u2019s house.<\/p>\n

Simple, satisfying, and served with one of the best views in town. If you\u2019re in Kenosha on a weekend morning, this is the move.<\/p>\n
